Hello, I'm Lydia!

Many homeschool parents have shared their woes of pouring their hearts into their children's education but realizing that there's just a missing link.

We know what we want, but how do we bring our educational vision to life?

MEET THE FOUNDER & Lead Educator

Hello, I'm Lydia!

Many homeschool parents have shared their woes of pouring their hearts into their children's education but realizing that there's just a missing link.

We know what we want, but how do we bring our educational vision to life?

In 2023, I founded Transforming Minds Education to partner my educational training with parents' visions to help create the outcomes homeschooling parents have desired with intentionality and strategy.

The Vision

Transforming Thinking, Transforming Lives, Transforming Families

Transforming Minds Education partners with families to provide quality homeschool education by teaching critical thinking skills and practical application of knowledge, by creating opportunities for students to discover and use their strengths, and by providing accountability for their children to build strong character.

We believe in facilitating whole-person education that fully equips students to pursue higher education or their vocation with excellence and integrity.

Teaching Philosophy

Whole-Person Education

At what point did education become all about standardized test results and straight A's...and how much are those results really benefitting our school-age kids? Are we really educating if children are graduating school systems lacking strong moral character, creative problem-solving skills, knowledge application and transfer, and collaboration skills?

At Transforming Minds Education, we believe that if we fail to train up the next generation wholly — spirit, soul, and body — we will leave them ill-equipped to step into the next stages of their lives. Let's define each of these terms:

SPIRIT

the innermost part of one's being

To educate the spirit is to teach children...

- to seek, know, and fear God (for Biblical families)

- to walk according to the leading of the Spirit and the Word of God (for Biblical families)

- to discover their true identity

- to teach discernment

- to cultivate morality and sensitivity to one's conscience

- to access and apply wisdom beyond one's intellect

SOUL

the mind, the will, the emotions

To educate the soul is to teach children...

- high-level thinking skills such as pattern-seeking, evaluating, analyzing, judging, synthesizing, and creating

- conceptual understandings in academics that transfer across the disciplines and into real-life contexts

- how to build upon their background knowledge to create new ideas and understandings

- submission of their will to the greater principles and well-being of those around them — unless the "greater ideals" presented are rooted in immorality

- how to allow their emotions to be a gauge of their boundaries and passions, but not the leader of their decisions

BODY

the physical being of a person

To incorporate the body is to teach children...

- to fuel their bodies with nourishing foods and liquids

- to strengthen their bodies with exercise and movement

- to incorporate movement into their learning, engaging multiple facets of their brains at once

- to restore their bodies with sufficient rest

- to steward their bodies with good hygiene practices

- to nourish and strengthen their bodies, not to harm them

Curriculum Strategy

Concept-Based Curriculum and Instruction

Our children and the generations that will follow are entering into an ever-changing world of constant technological and societal advancements that require more than textbook knowledge and good grades, so how do we present learning engagements in a way that will equip students to develop the character and the skills they'll need to thrive?

We craft curriculum using a format called Concept-Based Curriculum and Instruction. The foundation of learning is the factual content that students study with an inquiry-based approach and with guiding questions. The factual knowledge reveals key concepts that are transferrable across the subject area and can even transfer across other subject areas. As we study the meaning and practical examples of the concepts, students begin to see how the concepts relate to one another and form bigger understandings that transfer their learning across time, place, and situation.

By teaching through guided inquiry and teaching conceptually, students' understanding is not limited to memorization and regurgitation of information and rote use of skills; rather, they construct their own understandings with guidance and support, which helps them to maintain the deeper, transferrable learning and apply the learning to real life contexts.

COMMON QUESTIONS

COMMON QUESTIONS

Is Our Curriculum Christian?

Because of our whole-person education approach, some families ask if we explicitly teach the Bible or if we have a Christian curriculum. Although we are Believers, we do not teach the Bible or Christian curriculum explicitly unless a family utilizing our individualized family services requests it; however, we live out Biblical principles and teach morality to the best of our ability, which is founded on Biblical principles. We know our families quite well, and we obtain a mutual respect for the beliefs of each individual family, especially when working 1:1 with a student.

What Curriculum Do We Use?

For POD classes and for most individualized family services, we craft our own curriculum based on the students' individual needs and interests, the state and/or international standards, and subject-area resources. Most of our curriculum is created by our educators following the Concept Based Curriculum and Instruction and Concept Based Inquiry unit planning formats. Occasionally, families utilizing individualized services will choose curriculum that they would like us to teach.

Results

"...We are so thankful for all the work that Mrs. Lydia has put in and the results. My oldest children are now looking into colleges because they no longer feel intimidated to try academically. They are now welcoming challenges. Mrs. Lydia worked so closely with each of my children and individualized their learning in a way that set them up to feel confident working independently in areas that previously discouraged them. As a mom, having Mrs. Lydia’s help for accountability was even better than I imagined. The gift of having her on my team. She has reinforced our family values with my children in a loving way and helped me see the areas that needed more attention while celebrating every victory with me. The way that she provides open lines of communication with me to discuss concerns and situations with my children has been so helpful along this journey..."

"Lydia is so wonderful. She is incredibly organized and has helped create a structure and flow in our homeschooling that allows creative freedom and individualization to each child’s interests, while at the same time helping them meet and exceed their grade-level goals and standards. Working with her has brought much clarity, vision, and confidence to me as a homeschooling mom."
